Day #57: Marshall to Brookings, South Dakota (60 miles)

Today was long... according to the forecast, the wind was 10-18 mph gusting to 30, hot and humid. On the plus side I figured out Google's tricks and learned how to avoid dirt roads!

Because of the wind, I spent a lot of the day with my head down just watching the road a few feet in front of me... it was too depressing to look out in the distance because my progress was so slow... It reminded me of the scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where Launcelot is running from a great distance to storm the castle. I'd glance at a farm far off and when I glanced again it looked like it had gotten no closer...

A great roast beef sub at the 25 mile mark... this turned out to be the only place to get food along the entire 60 mile route... I restocked on ice tea, V8, Gatorade and water... and needed it all...

This is the 10th state I've visited on this trip :-)

Action shots with commentary:

Snapshot: 60 miles, starting at 7:45am and ending at 4:15pm, with 6 hours of actual riding:

Jeez, glad you made it through the day (Btw, I haven't got my headphones so can't listen to the videos til later.) Good thing you had V8 to power you on, that sounds very needed. Thinking of the Sir Lancelot scene is hilarious though! The changes in scale... too funny -Nof
