My destination today is Fond du Lac, which is where my father was born and grew up and where my aunt and uncle, Jim and Dianne, live today. As you can see from the map, it's called Fond du Lac because it's at the bottom or base of Lake Winnebago, and "Fond" means "at the bottom of" in French. Growing up, I visited Fond du Lac several times and was really excited about arriving by bike. Whenever I bike somewhere that I had previously only gotten to by plane or car, I feel like I've knitted my world together...
I don't have many pictures today, because my ride was short and I was so excited I rode almost straight through:
But a few action shots...
Snapshot: 30 miles, starting at 7am and ending at 10:30am, with 2.5 hours of actual riding:
The red fam houses on the green green field, just like in movies. It’s dreamily beautiful. By biking ( or hiking) there is always time and space to notice details, to feel and to wonder. Enjoy the time with your mom and your extended family.
I can imagine what you mean about stitching places together... Can't believe you've now arrived there fully via your legs (and, as you would probably add, some gears). How awesome that you get to see Jim and Dianne, and sounds touching to be in Fond du Lac. Love the twittering of the birds too... -Nof
